We recently requested Omar Travels to arrange a trip to Hunza for a group of 15 people. Traveling by road from Islamabad to Hunza via Gilgit, and then flying back by PIA out of Gilgit. They were asked to arrange for transportation from Islamabad (Coaster), and then local transportation in Gilgit and Hunza, along with sight-seeing tours. We also requested them to provide hotel accommodation en-route but not in Hunza, as we had made our own hotel arrangements in Hunza. They responded with a decent travel plan but at a ridicules price, as an example they were quoting a one way airfare (Gilgit to Islamabad) of Rs11,000 per person, when PIA was charging Rs8990 for the same flight. They were doing the same with the hotel prices. Basically there was a 25%-30% mark up. Its OK to make a profit, but it needs to be within acceptable limits. They had the nerve to dictate to their customers “take it or leave it” – for a minute they forgot that they are in business because of “customers” and when you are rude, and condescending to your “customers” they will walk away. The final outcome was that the trip got cancelled, and they lost a potential Rs150K on the deal. They need to understand, customers do have choices, and they are the best marketing resource for any business. They totally lack business ethics!
